WEDDINGS

A General Overview of Weddings and Related Ceremonies in Scotland

I have the great privilege and pleasure of holding legal wedding, handfasting and betrothal ceremonies throughout Scotland.

Not only is Scotland a stunningly beautiful country, it also offers a unique freedom for the location of your ceremony, and I can offer you the greatest freedom and flexibility for the content of your ceremony.

Within our preparations I use questions to find out about both of you personally so that your ceremony is a beautiful, meaningful, personal reflection of the two of you.

I’m interested in how each of you define love and marriage - the invitation to you is to personally define what these ideas and experiences mean to you, rather than what they mean to the state or church.

I'm interested in how each of you understand and experience God which may or may not be a term and concept you relate to, and it’s fine if it isn’t because the important thing is for me honour your beliefs whatever they are - spiritual or secular.

Over the years I've developed a series of options for you to choose from for your ceremony, so that I can respond to all budgets and visions. These vary in length, simplicity and complexity, and ideas.

When we work together on creating your perfect ceremony, I help you get clear about all aspects of the ceremony and offer you ideas if needed.

We'll consider the following – who'll be present, how we make your ceremony sacred, how we ensure everyone present feels welcomed and included whether they follow a religious or spiritual path or not, whether you’d like guest participation, whether you’d like your closest family and friends to have a role, whether you’d like to include music, readings or poems, ritual or some other creative element.

I find out what you’d like to have included and then you can relax knowing that I’ll weave everything together into a beautiful, personal and meaningful ceremony for you.

Once I’ve written your ceremony I can email it to you or read it through in person or by phone, so you can ensure it’s hit the right note for you; once we’ve made any changes for it to be perfect all we need to do is show up on the day and enjoy your ceremony. (I will give you my professional opinions about the structure and order for your ceremony, but you have final editorial control – I’m not going to say anything you don’t feel happy with.)

All ceremonies are made personal and unique and I have a dedicated wedding website www.GettingMarriedInScotland.org which gives further information and detail. I can also post or email further information if you’d find that helpful.

I’m happy to work with all couples who wish to marry, however and wherever. Same sex couples will find information about ceremony possibilities and the legal signing on my dedicated civil partnership ceremony website www.CivilPartnershipScotland.co.uk
